Carl has been deeply involved with city transformation for over thirty years. During much of the early part of this he worked directly with Portland leadership providing technical tools and support leading up the famous Billy Graham Crusade of 1992. Inexpensive technical tools were almost non-existent then, but with what we had we successfully created a database of the 1800+ local churches (harvest force database) the city leaders used it to network pastors for massive prayer summits at the coast. The prayers and crusade led to a Church growth in the area of 8-10% a year for awhile in the most unchurched area of our country. Since then Carl has helped other cities internationally begin what is now called spiritual mapping. In the Nehemiah biblical narrative, Nehemiah’s friends had been spiritually mapping Jerusalem and brought the results to Nehemiah. This initiated Nehemiah’s burden and the rebirth of Jerusalem.
Carl has also followed the research of George Otis, Jr. , who has identified and documented hundreds of places in the world where the Spirit of God has intersected with corruption, poverty, prostitution, drugs and greed and has seen these places experience total transformation in multiple ways simultaneously: political, economic, spiritual, business, educational, agricultural, and more. From the research of Otis, leaders began to understand the factors that were common to each transformation. Carl’s seen and heard stories that you would not believe even if I shared them here.
Carl has gone to Singapore, India, London, as well as several American cities, one after another to explore the hearts and lives of others longing for transformation, the intimacy with God than Man lost shortly after creation but still available today to those that seek Him.
In a 1989 trip to England to speak and then planned to go to Switzerland for some R&R, Carl contracted Gillian Barre Syndrome while in England that physically destroyed his peripheral neural system. The destruction was so intensive he was told by his doctors he would never walk again. A little over a year later after a few miracles he walked again. Within only a few months his wife contracted leukemia, and he soon lost her. Carl returned to England a few years afterwards to speak at another conference, taking his pastor with him this time. While there, Carl met a young man who have traveled all night from Germany to talk with him. Carl remembers his question:
“What is the most important advice,” he asked, “you can give me about going into this spiritual mapping?”
Without even blinking, Carl answered his question.
“Be very sure you have a good team of prayer warriors praying for you. The Enemy knows spiritual mapping is very strategic and will do anything to stop you.”
Carl has authored over forty books, with four of these on the transformation process. He is also available for speaking or consulting.
“Carl is a man who hears what the Spirit is saying and places the poetry of that message for the reader to hear for himself”
