If one was to search for the central theme of the book of Revelation, it would the simple statement the Lord proclaimed to John “I am the Alpha and the Omega”. This is repeated four times in the book, and appears at both the beginning and the end of the book: Rev. 1.8, 1:11, 21:6, 22:13.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,”Rev 1:11 NKJV
What does this mean? Teilhard de Chardin lived during the first half of the last century and was both a Jesuit priest and a paleontologist. (A paleontologist is a person that researches the origin of man.) He wrote of Man evolving to an “Omega Point”, a place where Man again became one with God as he was back in the Garden of Eden. You could then (from our human perspective) see this Alpha and Omega as referring a relationship of Man with God, with God existing even before this relationship. God is the true Alpha and Omega without beginning or end. We only have purpose and meaning in relationship to God.Now this “Omega Point” Teilhard de Chardin envisioned represents a place of very high order. Scientists use a concept of entropy to measure the disorder of a system. This “Omega Point”, then, represents a place of low entropy. Now the interesting thing is that no system can evolve to a place of high order by any process of natural selection. That would violate the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The only way a system can move to Teilhard de Chardin’s Omega Point is if something came in from outside the system to provide the “order” and energy for the change. In other words, God was acting in the creation process. It is the Christ Event in history that makes the Omega Point possible. Christ alone made it possible for Man to return to the Garden from which he was once cast out.

Alpha and Omega is not found in 1:11, and it is only used 3 times in Revelation.
